Teacher – Specialist SEN School | Lowestoft

We want to be upfront – this role won’t be for everyone.
TeachWell is looking for a resilient, compassionate and adaptable Teacher to work within a specialist school in Lowestoft, supporting children and young people with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex needs.
This can be a physically and emotionally demanding environment. Pupils may have significant communication difficulties, complex physical or medical needs and require a high level of individual support throughout their school day.
There will be challenging days.
But there will also be days when a small step forward feels like an enormous achievement.
Teaching Looks Different Here
Progress isn’t always measured by how much work has been completed or what’s written in an exercise book.
It might be a pupil communicating a choice.
Engaging with an activity for longer than before.
Developing a new life skill.
Becoming more independent.
Or achieving something they’ve been working towards for months.
Teaching is highly personalised around individual needs and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes, with learning incorporating communication, independence, sensory experiences, physical development, wellbeing and essential life skills.
You’ll work closely with Teaching Assistants and other professionals to provide the consistency, encouragement and specialist support pupils need.
We’d Love to Hear From You If You:
- Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Have SEN or specialist school experience, or a genuine desire to develop within specialist education
- Are resilient and comfortable working within a demanding environment
- Can adapt teaching around very different learning and communication needs
- Understand that progress looks different for every pupil
- Can work closely with support staff and other professionals
- Want to make a meaningful difference to children and young people’s lives
Experience supporting pupils with SLD, PMLD or complex needs would be particularly valuable.
